Oktoberfest

If there is one place on earth that can be associated with beer then it is Germany. It is the venue for the largest beer festival in the world, the Oktoberfest which takes place in October each year. What is a Beer Festival, you ask? A beer festival is exactly what the word says, it is a festival that has a huge variety of beer and people enjoy and party with beer. It is a time and place where beer lovers get together and enjoy themselves.

While Germany is the host to many Beer festivals across the country, but the original Oktoberfest happens in Munich. It is a 16 day fiesta when millions throng this lively city and appreciate the different beer brews. This festival is etched into Bavarian culture and the beer is accompanied by huge quantities of chicken, roasted pork and grilled fish.

14 Massive tents are set up in the city where people come and stay while many set their own camps across various sites. There are six main breweries that supply all the beer for the fest and every year close to 6,000,000 liters of beer is consumed. This in addition to thousands of liters of wines, sparkling wine, lemonade and food.

The traditional Oktoberfest started in 1810 and the tradition has carried on since then. other beer festivals that are held across Germany include Gaubodenvolksfest in Straubing, Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart and some others in Hannover and Bremen. The fun and frolic at these beer festivals surely highlights how much this country loves its beer.
